Master Degree Scholarships Marywood University

2009-2010 Graduate Scholarship Application
Master’s Degree, Educational Specialist Degree, and Post-Baccalaureate Certification Students
(Not School of Social Work Students, Speech-Language Pathology Students, and
Physician Assistant Students)
All material must be submitted by February 14, 2009.

Awards will be made on the basis of three factors: academic promise, normally represented by a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.00 or a graduate GPA of 3.50; professional focus and commitment; and financial need (required for specific scholarships).

File a complete admissions application. It is fully expected that each prospective student who is a scholarship applicant will have a complete admissions application on file with the Office of Graduate Admissions by February 14, 2009. The admissions application provides the supporting documentation necessary to evaluate a scholarship application.

Complete the scholarship application electronically. The scholarship application itself is on a secure server. You must press “yes” if your browser asks you if you wish to display secure items, otherwise Marywood University will not receive any of the information you type on the application upon submission.

If you declare full-time status on the scholarship application, enrollment in nine or more credits in the Fall 2009 and Spring 2010 semesters or what your graduate department defines as full enrollment in structured programs, and are awarded a full-time status scholarship and enroll for less than full-time registration in either of these semesters your scholarship award will be reduced.

If you declare part-time status on your scholarship application, The Committee on Graduate Scholarships expects part-time status students who are scholarship recipients to enroll in and maintain at least six credits in the fall semester and at least six credits in the spring semester. Part-time status scholarship recipients who fail to meet this requirement in a semester will have their scholarships rescinded for that semester.

Email a scholarship essay as a Microsoft Word document. Please type an essay (300-500 words) clarifying the relationship between your life-goals and graduate education at Marywood. Your essay will also be judged on depth of expression and use of the English language. Your essay must clearly address the following areas:

  1. Describe your professional work background and experience.
  2. Describe your community leadership activities. Indicate if a volunteer activity.
  3. Describe any commendations and appreciation awards as well as undergraduate and graduate academic awards and honors.
  4. Describe any special projects, demonstrations, workshops, recitals, exhibits, or whatever may be appropriate to your area to indicate your abilities and interests.
  5. What are your short and long range career goals and objectives?
  6. What attracted you to your Marywood program as a vehicle for achieving your goals?

Email the essay in Microsoft Word to gradscholarship@marywood.edu. Your essay should contain your name, social security number, and field of study at the top of the page.

Scholarship selection results will be mailed in early April 2009. Scholarships are available for use beginning Fall 2009; they may only be used to defray tuition for Marywood courses.

Students awarded graduate assistantships for the 2009-2010 academic year who accept those positions are not eligible to receive scholarship awards as well.

Marywood University undergraduate students who are enrolled in formal five-year programs are automatically eligible for at least forty percent of their undergraduate merit award or higher for their fifth year of study at the graduate level provided they are admitted to the master’s level by their academic department.

Neither scholarship nor assistantship awards are renewed automatically each year. It is the responsibility of the student to reapply each academic year.

Singapore Scholarships Invitation for Undergraduate 2009/2010

SINGAPORE SCHOLARSHIP INVITATION FOR APPLICATIONS ACADEMIC YEAR 2009/2010

The Singapore Government awards the scholarship to Government-endorsed students from the other member countries of the ASEAN. Each Scholarship is for a full-time undergraduate degree course at the Nanyang Technological University, the National University of Singapore and the Singapore Management University. All disciplines except for Medicine and Dentistry are open to Scholars. The duration of each scholarships is for three or four years, depending on the discipline. The award based on academic merit and places will allocated by open competition. If necessary, a one-year bridging or foundation programme, in addition to the undergraduate studies, will be provided.

To be eligible, a candidate must:

  • Be a citizen in an ASEAN country (Except Singapore)
  • Possess excellent academic records; and
  • Have a good command of English

Candidates must meet the entry requirements for Nanyang Technological University, National University of Singapore, and Singapore Management University. A recipient of the Scholarship may not concurrently hold any other Scholarship, Fellowship, Grant or Award without prior approval of the Singapore Government. The Scholars are also expected to return to their countries upon graduation to contribute to the development of their countries.

The scholarship will cover tuition fees for the duration of the award, a living allowance of S$4,300 per annum, an accommodation allowance based on the different room rates at each university and one return economy class air ticket passage from his/her home country to Singapore for the duration of studies.

Applications must be endorsed and submitted by the Indonesian Department of National Education (Bureau of Planning and Foreign Cooperation) at Building C, 6th Floor, Jl. Jend.Sudirman, Senayan, Jakarta Pusat. Candidates are required to produce the following :

  1. Certificate, endorsement by the former school, for graduated applicants;
  2. Recommendation from the school principal, for applicants who are still in Grade 3 at SMU.

1. Prospective Applicants

The MSIN Program addresses highly motivated individuals with a firm belief in the value of education and a determination to work hard and excel in the specific scientific and technology fields.

To enter the MSIN degree Program, the applicant must hold a bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a closely related field.

Prospective students can be university graduates or professionals with a solid academic background, and a strong drive and commitment to pursue an intensive full-time 16-month (or alternatively a part-time 32-month) graduate Program.

2. Qualifications

  • Excellent academic performance, as this is indicated by grades, class ranking, scholarships, recommendation letters etc.
  • Excellent command of the English language (evidenced with TOEFL scores, IELTS or Proficiency degree and oral performance in an interview).

3. Application Procedure

All Prospective Applicants:

The online form is accessible through both the INI and College of Engineering, Carnegie Institute of Technology (CIT), Web sites. The form consists of a main section, under which applicants will create an online profile, and supplemental sections where you will enter information relevant to the program you seek to enter. You will select your program of choice in the main section of the form.

Though applicants will be able to upload a copy of their university transcripts, please note that the INI will still require all applicants to supply hard copy originals of their official undergraduate transcripts as well as transcripts for all programs attended whether a degree was earned or not.

The application evaluation procedure may include a personal interview with an AIT faculty member. Applicants should take into consideration that the general Carnegie Mellon criteria apply for Admission.

4. Athens MSIN Admissions and How to apply

Minimum Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in electrical and computer engineering, computer science, or another related technical field
  • Undergraduate coursework in data structures and probability theory/random processes
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Ability to program fluently in C or C++
  • GRE General Test no more than 5 years old (Neither the GMAT nor the Subject Test is accepted.)
  • TOEFL, no more than 2 years old, is required with applicants whose native language/mother tongue is not English. For the Athens MSIN, IELTS and Proficiency Diploma in English are also accepted.

Submission Package

To be considered for admission, you must submit the following documents by February 15, 2009(for non-EU students)& April 30,2009(for EU students)

  • A completed Online Application Form
  • Official transcripts from any undergraduate or graduate school you have attended whether a degree was received or not. If the transcripts are in any language other than English, an official translation in English is required. A photocopy of a transcript is not considered official.
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • A statement of purpose (500-1,000 words)
  • Official GRE General Test scores
  • Official TOEFL/IELTS/Proficiency scores for applicants whose native language/mother tongue is not English

Transcripts

Official transcripts are required from all colleges or universities you have attended, at both the undergraduate and the graduate levels, whether or not you earned a degree from that college or university.

If attending the final semester in your undergraduate program at the time of application, the INI will accept properly sealed official transcripts and mark sheets for the semesters completed to date.

Applicants admitted to any INI program must submit final official transcripts, properly sealed, upon completion of their undergraduate program from the institution conferring their degree as a condition of enrollment at Carnegie Mellon. Certificates of graduation and/or degree certificates should also be submitted if provided by the institution. Failure to provide such documents or failure to graduate will nullify admission to the INI programs.

While the online form allows for submission of transcripts online, official paper documents are required to complete the application.

Letters of Recommendation

Three letters of recommendation are required. At least two of these should be from faculty or recent employers. People who recommend you should know you well and be able to evaluate the quality of your work.

Recommendations may be submitted electronically via the online form.

Statement of Purpose

A Statement of Purpose of between 500-1,000 words should be uploaded to the online form in the appropriate section using the following format:

  • Describe your background in electrical engineering or computer science and other fields particularly relevant to your objective.
  • Outline your research experience and list any publications.
  • Include additional information you wish to supply to the admissions committee.

GRE

The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test is required; neither the GMAT nor GRE Subject Test is accepted for review. Applications will not be considered complete until an official copy of test scores is received by the institute. GRE scores will not be accepted if they are more than five years old.

Use Institution Code #2074 and Department Code #0404 (Information Sciences) to submit your GRE General Test scores through the Educational Testing Service (ETS).

To ensure that GRE scores reach the INI office before the application deadline, applicants should take the test no later than April 15.

TOEFL

All applicants whose native language/mother tongue is not English must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Applicants who took the TOEFL in 2006 may still submit CBT (computer-based test) or PBT (paper-based test) scores. The INI will accept the PBT scores if the Internet-based test (iBT) is not offered in the applicant’s country.

Use Institution Code #8569 and Department Code #99 to submit your TOEFL score report. Admission decisions on applications without the required test scores may be delayed.

Applicants who have attended and graduated from a four-year undergraduate degree program at an accredited U.S. university may have this requirement waived.

Lee Kuan Yew Fellowship - Lee Kwan Yew School of Public Policy - The Master in Public Management (MPM) programme was developed to enhance the skills of senior managers working in the public, people and private sectorsin the area of good governance. Asia Pacific Leadership Program 2009-2010

The Asia Pacific Leadership Program (APLP) is the center of excellence for leadership education in Asia Pacific and a signature program of the East-West Center. The program links advanced and interdisciplinary analysis of emergent regional issues with experiential leadership learning.

New Fellowships Available

The East-West Center is pleased to announce new fellowships for the Asia Pacific Leadership Program for 2009-10. Entering its eight year, the Asia Paci?c Leadership Program (APLP) is the center of excellence for leadership education in the Asia Paci?c region. The APLP is a graduate certi?cate program combining the development of regional expertise with the enhancement of individual leadership capacity. Based at the East-West Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, the program has created a network of dynamic leaders in 48 countries who are helping to build a peaceful, prosperous and just Asia Paci?c community. All participants receive an APLP Entrance Fellowship valued at approximately $15,000.

Participants

The Asia Pacific Leadership Program seeks outstanding individuals with proven leadership experience or high leadership potential from across the Asia Pacific region, North America and beyond. All participants have at least a Bachelors degree with the majority having graduate degrees as well. At least 20 countries are represented in each cohort. APLP Fellows come together from all walks of life, including areas as diverse as government, business, NGOs, health sciences, media, monastic orders, and education.

APLP participants will gain broad regional perspectives, become knowledgeable about the critical challenges facing the Asia Pacific region, and be trained to exercise leadership and promote cooperation. The APLP empowers leaders with the knowledge, skills, experiences, and supportive community needed to successfully navigate personal and regional change in the 21st century.

Recruitment for 2009-10 is open. Places are limited. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

Narrative An original transcript of grades from your university Photocopies of transcripts or transcripts downloaded from the internet are NOT acceptable unless they bear an original stamp or seal from your university’s registrar’s office. One completed recommendation form from a member of Alpha Gamma Delta This recommendation should be from an advisor, if applicant is a collegian. Two completed recommendation forms from non-members Professors or employers may write non-member letters.

It is highly recommended that you mail all parts of the application in one envelope. This helps prevent delays or mistakes. If the university or an individual completing a recommendation form prefers to send
information directly to the Foundation office, they may do so. Don’t assume it has been done! To prevent misunderstandings, check with your college or university and the individuals writing recommendations well ahead of the deadline to be sure all parts of your application have been mailed on time.

[USA] Scholarship Fund by the Indiana Latino Institute, Inc.

The “Careers for the Future” Scholarship was created by the Indiana Latino Institute, Inc. as a means of addressing the underrepresentation of Latinos in post-secondary education

. The goal is to encourage Latino students in Indiana to pursue higher education and engage in community service. In order to accomplish this goal the ILI will provide scholarships for the 2009-2010 academic year. Scholarships are made possible through funding from the Indianapolis Foundation, a CICF affiliate, and USA Funds.

Eligibility:

Students applying to or currently enrolled at any college or university in the state of Indiana

  • Student must be planning to enroll in a minimum of 6 credit hours per semester.
  • Student must be a graduating high school senior, college freshman or sophomore
  • Student must be between the ages of 17 and 25

Demonstrate academic achievement (minimum 2.5 GPA on 4.0 scale)
Demonstrate financial need (complete financial need form)
Document ongoing community service involvement
Preference given to Latino students residing in Indiana who are first-generation college or non-
traditional students

Amount:
$1,250 to be distributed in two installments of $625 for two consecutive semesters. Second semester
installment is contingent on maintaining 2.5 GPA.

Deadline:
All application materials including essays and recommendations must be postmarked and mailed to the
address below by May 31, 2009.

Award Notification:
Award letters will be sent to scholarship recipients by June 30, 2009. Also, scholarship winners and
their parents would be invited to attend an award ceremony.

[USA] Graduate Diversity Fellowship at Florida Atlantic University

Florida Atlantic University offers this $2,500 fellowship to graduate students who increase the diversity of the student body in their chosen field of study. Applicants must be able to demonstrate how they contribute to increasing diversity, and if applicable any impediments or disadvantages they may have overcome to pursue their advanced degree. Attributes that relate to diversity include, but are not limited to, the following: age, cultural heritage, ethnic background, exceptional ability, gender, race and socio-economic status. Membership in an underrepresented racial or ethnic group is a qualifying factor, but the graduate diversity fellowship is not awarded solely on this basis.

Application materials — personal statement, curriculum vitae and faculty recommendations — must be submitted to the Graduate College by noon on Friday, January 30, 2009.

Who is Eligible
Applicants must fulfill the following eligibility requirements:

  • Contribution to Diversity: Students must contribute significantly to the diversity of the student body in their chosen field of study.
  • Academic Program: Students must be admitted into a graduate major.
  • Completed Graduate-Level Coursework: Students must have completed at least 9 credit hours of graduate-level coursework applicable towards their degree. Current course enrollment cannot be used to fulfill this requirement.
  • Remaining Credit Hours: Students must have at least 12 credit hours remaining in their graduate degree program. Current course enrollment, as well as thesis and dissertation credit hours can be used to fulfill this requirement.
  • U.S.Resident: Permanent resident status is also acceptable.

Graduate students who are full-time, benefit-eligible employees of Florida Atlantic University are not eligible to apply for the fellowship. Graduate assistants and graduate students with hourly appointments are not considered full-time employees and thus are eligible to apply.

How to Apply

Step 1: Personal Statement
The personal statement, no more than one single-spaced typed page, should summarize the importance of your intellectual and/or research interests, as well as the significance of your ultimate goals. In addition, your statement must address how your presence at FAU increases diversity in your graduate program.

Step 2: Curriculum Vitae
The CV, no more than one single-spaced typed page, should list awards, publications/creative works, presentations, and other scholarly activity. If your combined scholarly activities fill more than one page, please list only those activities you consider to be highlights of your academic career or those most likely to promote your application.

Step 3: Faculty Recommendations
Two faculty members who agree to write a support letter on your behalf must send their recommendations directly to the Graduate College. Please remind your recommenders that their letters must arrive by January 30, 2009.

[Switzerland] International Ph.D. Programs Life Sciences - University of Zurich

The Life Science Zurich Graduate School consists of nine highly competitive Ph.D. programs, run jointly by the ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich. Each program offers research and education opportunities in a stimulating international environment for ambitious students who wish to work towards a Ph.D. degree. Accepted students perform their research project in one of the participating research groups of their favorite program, according to their scientific interest. Advanced teaching and training courses are offered throughout the curriculum. The program language is English throughout. Ph.D. studies usually last 3-4 years.

Education: Applicants must hold or anticipate receiving a Master’s degree or equivalent from a university in a relevant field before starting the Ph.D. program. Applicants accepted for the program will have to register with either the University of Zurich or ETH Zurich, depending on the affiliation of their future research group.

[USA] Scholarship in Rocky Mountain College

Scholarship in Rocky Mountain College Department of Computer Science National Science Foundation

The purposes of this application, a returning student is one who was enrolled as a full-time student at Rocky Mountain College during the previous academic year and has successfully completed at least 6 credit hours in computer science at the College, has declared intent to pursue a degree in computer science at the College, and has been assigned an academic advisor from the computer science faculty. A returning student who does not meet all of these requirements is treated as a transfer student for the purposes of this application

[Japan] Graduate Research Program Scholarships in Computer Science and Information Technology

Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST) offers Graduate Research Program (GRP) for deserving and qualified students. This is a new graduate-level program aiming at providing the state of the art education in the rapidly progressing field of computer science and information technologies

. Each student in this program will be associated with one of research projects conducted by our nationally and internationally recognized faculty members, and will participate in research and development under the project. Through the involvement in a cutting-edge research project, the student receives in-depth training and high-quality research supervision directly by the responsible faculty members throughout the enrollment.

Graduate Research Projects:
The graduate research program is run in cooperation with funded research projects. Each student admitted to this program will belong to one of those projects, and will work in collaboration with the faculty members and research stuffs of the project. On admission, the admissions committee tentatively assigns each student a research project based on the information provided in the application documents. After enrollment, the students will be given an opportunity to select a research project according to his/her interests.

The project will provide each student with the following financial supports:
Monthly stipend
Each student will receive the salary as a research assistant for his/her own research/study. The amount is calculated as 28 hours per week and 1,400 yen (Japanese Yen) per hour. This means about 157,000 yen per month (or, equivalently about 1,900,000 yen per year). Each year, the contract will be judged to revalidate based on the evaluation.

Travel expenses

For foreign students, financial support for onward travel travel will be provided.

Research fund

The project will provide sufficient funds for equipments, supplies and research trips necessary to carry out his/her research.

Student dormitory

JAIST offers on-campus student dormitory at very reasonable price.

From October 2002, this program is run by the Japanese Governmental grant for promotion of advanced research and education (through March 2007), and from April 2005, cooperating with JSPS funds for 21st Century COE Program (through March 2009). JAIST is among few that have been awarded this funding. The current general theme is “Verification and Development of Highly Reliable Internet Software,” which covers wide range of foundational research on Internet related software, ranging from theoretical foundations to innovative application development. Degree Program
The graduate research program offers a graduate education program leading to a Ph.D. degree. This is a 3 year course consisting of the following.
10 course units
10 credit units of project work
dissertation research

Tuitions and fees: Each student must pay his/her tuitions and fees. The current applicable amounts are as follows.

  • Annual tuitions: 535,800 yen
  • Admission fees: 282,000 yen
  • Screening fee: 30,000 yen

Eligible students can apply for exemption of these frees after the admission.
Application Information for April 2009 Admission
The GRP program will accept applications for October admission and for April admission. The following information is only for April 2009 admission.

Eligibility
Those who hold a degree that is equivalence to master’s degree in Japan or expect to earn such a degree by March 31, 2009 for the term starting in April 2009.

Application Procedure:
This GRP program is part of a doctoral program of the School of Information Science of JAIST. April 2009 admission is the recommendation based GRP admission. They consists of three steps.

  • Notify to the GRP Admission Office
    Those who would like to apply for the GRP program must also notify the GRP Admission Office his/her intension to apply.
  • Contact with your intended supervisors in the faculty members. All applicants of the GRP program must first contact with intended supervisors in the faculty members of School of Information Science. Application without the contact with your intended supervisor(s) (and his/her recommendation) will not be considered.
  • Apply to GRP selection
    Send application form to GRP Admission Office before 9th January, 2009. For details and required documents, read the instruction carefully.
