Danish Government Scholarships for the academic year 2009-2010
In accordance with the Cultural Agreement Programme between Denmark and the Republic of Hungary, the following scholarships are available for students from Hungary:
- 34 months for undergraduates and postgraduates minimum duration: 2 months.
- 4 scholarships for participation in summer courses in Danish language of 3 weeks’ duration.
Purpose
The scholarships are available for advanced students, graduates and specialists in order to enable them to study or carry out research at a Danish university or a similar institution of higher education in Denmark.
The scholarships are not intended for part-time studies or open education programmes, nor are they granted for elementary studies of the Danish language.
The scholarships are not intended for a full course of study. Normally, an academic degree or a diploma cannot be obtained during the tenure of the scholarship period.
Conditions
The applicants must be nominated by their own authorities.
The applicants must be approved by CIRIUS. It is a condition that an appropriate study programme can be arranged. It is therefore essential that the applicant in his/her application gives a detailed description of the intended project of studies/research in Denmark.
Danish is the usual language of instruction at institutions of higher education in Denmark, but more and more institutions offer regular courses in English or another foreign language or have special arrangements for non-Danish students.
Further information on courses in other languages can be obtained from the institutions.
Value
The scholarship includes free tuition and a monthly allowance of DKK 5,000. Scholarship periods lasting more than 3 months include health insurance. As a general rule, the scholarship is tax free in Denmark. However, as there are exceptions to this rule we recommend that you contact the local tax authorities for an individual assessment.
The scholarship covers the living expenses of one person only. Additional amounts for accompanying members of the family are not available.
How to apply
Fill out the application form (Word) or (Pdf) and submit the application form and all the documents required – including the Certificate of Proficiency in English (Word) or (Pdf) – to the Hungarian Scholarship Board (HSB). Please contact the HSB with respect to the national application deadline.
Nominations for the 2009 long-term scholarships must reach CIRIUS not later than 1 March 2009.
Nominations for the 2009 summer language course scholarships must reach CIRIUS not later than 1 May 2009.
General information
The scholarships are tenable during the academic year. The autumn term begins on 1 September and the spring term on 1 February.
With respect to residence permit/visa, we recommend that accepted applicants contact the Danish diplomatic representation in their home country well in advance of their entry into Denmark.
