The Department of Law at Aarhus School of Business, University of Aarhus, is advertising a PhD scholarship vacant as at 1 August 2008 or as soon as possible thereafter. The PhD scholarship is available as an ordinary scholarship or as a 4+4 scholarship.
The Department of Law conducts teaching and research within the field of business law. The Department holds the main responsibility for the combined law/economics degree programme BSc (Business Administration and Business law/Business Administration and Tax law) and the MSc in Business Administra-tion and Business law as well as the Master programme in Indirect Taxation. Furthermore, the Department is co-responsible for the following program mes: the MSc in Accounting and Auditing, the MSc in EU Business and finally the Master in Environmen- tal and Energy Law. At present, research activities at the Department of Law are focussed on the following areas: Company law, Tax law, EU law (including Environmental law), WTO law, Labour law, Intellectual Property law and Private commercial law.
A PhD student in Denmark must complete an individually planned PhD course programme within the relevant research area and conduct a research project under the supervision of experienced senior researchers. The PhD student is also expected, as part of the programme, to spend some time (up to six months), with coverage of travel and accommodation expenses, at another – often foreign – research institution. During the programme, the PhD student is further expected to gain teaching experience within the subject area as well as experience with other forms of dissemination of research results. ASB also finances participation in relevant PhD courses and scientific conferen- ces. In addition, it is expected that PhD students participate in and contribute to the other activities of the department.
The ordinary PhD scholarship has duration of three years. Graduates and students expecting to complete their study programme in the near future may apply for the scholarship. The employment is covered by a national collective agreement. A 4+4 scholarship implies that the student enrolls in the PhD programme after finishing the first year of his/her graduate programme, and that a programme for the four year period is determined. The program-me implies that the student completes his/her master at the end of the second year of the PhD programme at the latest. The applicant’s research potential will be the determining factor for a positive academic assessment.
