EPSRC Industrial Case PhD Studentship: Knowledge Management for Integrated Product Development
Centre for Innovative Product Development, School of Engineering at University of Greenwich
Our recently established Centre for Innovative Product Development at the University of Greenwich (www.gre.ac.uk/cipd) is expanding with significant industrial support. We have an EPSRC Industrial CASE studentship with a leading aerospace company BAE System Rochester, Kent. The project is in the broad area of product development management, collaboration and integration of design and manufacturing across the supply chain, methodologies and frameworks of information and knowledge management, manufacturing capability, quality and cost management. Specific tasks will be determined with the sponsoring company during the project.
We particularly look for students with research experiences in design, manufacturing, knowledge and project management. The PhD student will join an existing team of researchers and may be required to be based in the companies most of the time. Both academic and industrial training is provided throughout the project.
Funding of between £15,000 and £17,000 per year for 3 years (tax free) is available to UK and EU students, plus University tuition fees paid. The starting date of the project is flexible subject to mutual agreement. Candidates should have first degree (2:1 or above) in engineering with a MSc degree or research/work experience in design, manufacturing, management or IT. We will consider applications from exceptionally good new undergraduates or current students in their final year.
UNIVERSITY OF GREENWICH: Engineering Department, Medway Campus
Engineering has been at the heart of this institution since its foundation in 1890. In 1910, our predecessor the Woolwich Polytechnic offered its first degrees in engineering, and the school has grown in size and reputation ever since. A key strength is that the broad areas of computer and communications engineering, civil engineering, electronic engineering, mechanical engineering, product design and engineering management are accessible within one school.
The relocation of the school in 1997 to the prestigious Medway campus, and the significant investment in new facilities there, have enabled us to successfully meet the ever-changing requirements of engineering, with programmes that reflect the needs of industry - locally, nationally and internationally.
Our graduates have not only the technical skills associated with their chosen field but also professional skills, such as problem solving, communications, management and IT proficiency. Much of the project work undertaken by our students is derived directly or indirectly from industry.
