[UK] DPhil Studentship in Marine Renewable Energy at University of Oxford

Applications are invited for a 3.5 year (DPhil) studentship in the field of numerical simulation of fluid flows through marine current turbines used for power generation.

As marine turbine devices move towards field deployment it is imperative that the influence of field conditions on device performance be better understood. The project will seek to develop and use a Computational Fluid Dynamics tool to investigate marine turbine flows and the influence of field conditions, including operation in the wake of an upstream device, on turbine performance.

Applicants should have a keen interest in Computational Fluid Dynamics, and should possess good programming and analytical skills. Applications are invited from candidates with a good upper-second or first-class honours degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or other relevant subject.

Funding information

Funding applies to: EU applicants (including UK)
Funding notes: Candidates who are UK nationals, or who have been ordinarily resident in the UK for the last 3 years are eligible for a fully funded studentship. In this case the remuneration will be £12,940 p.a. in 2007/8 (and will increase in subsequent years), with all fees paid. Candidates from other EU countries may be eligible for a “fees only” studentship.
