[Singapore] Scholarship for undergraduate Students at Singapore Management University

Standing Faculty (tenured & tenure track) and Visiting Faculty (up to 2 years)

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Appointments will be made in all areas of accountancy: accounting information systems, audit, management accounting and financial accounting. All streams of accounting research may be accommodated. Candidates with experience in the United States professional and higher education sectors are encouraged to apply. Knowledge of Singapore’s regulatory environment and/ or a CPA is an advantage. The successful candidate should demonstrate excellent research potential and be committed to high quality teaching. Preferred commencement is July 2008, but negotiable.

ABOUT THE SCHOOL AND SMU:
SMU was incorporated in January 2000 and officially inaugurated in July 2000. SMU is the first privately run university in Singapore with the Government funding. SMU aspires to the highest international standards of scholarship, research and teaching. These aspirations have been significantly bolstered by the collaboration agreements in place between SMU and the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. The Wharton-SMU collaborative agreement has three main aims:-
to conduct joint research through the Wharton-SMU Research Center
to develop an outstanding SMU faculty; and
to provide a tested model for curriculum design.

The School of Accountancy commenced with its first intake of undergraduate students in August 2001. It currently has 28 full-time faculty, from universities such as University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, University of California – Berkeley, University of Texas at Austin, and University of Chicago. It aims to further strengthen its talent pool by recruiting top class faculty from around the world.

CAMPUS:
SMU’s brand new city campus is a first of its kind in the historic Bras Basah area. Flanked by museums, theatres, art galleries, cafes, restaurants and myriad different shopping outlets, it is part of an ambitious plan to revitalize community life in the heart of the city. Planning for the campus has involved a broad spectrum of professional, community, civic and public groups and aroused widespread interest and comment. The goal has been to create a unique place with a unique experience, directed towards the challenges of the new Millennium, while anchored in the historic origins of the Civic District. The campus provides a conducive environment for learning as well as extra-curricula aspects of student life. It is equipped with a wireless Gigabit Ethernet IT infrastructure that allows SMU users and others to enjoy seamless, high-speed access to email, the internet, Library and a large array of IT and online resources as they move around the campus. The SMU campus is a city within a city for faculty and students, providing all the necessities and beyond, and serving as a portal to everything else that the Civic District offers.

REMUNERATION AND BENEFITS:
SMU recruits top class faculty selectively from around the world to build exciting diversity and capability. SMU offers internationally competitive remuneration, and assistance to international faculty to help them take up their appointments in Singapore. Details of remuneration and compensation are provided to candidates during the recruitment process, however the following may provide a guide :-
9-month academic year
research support
medical insurance
provident fund contributions, or service gratuity for non-Singapore citizens or permanent residents
schooling subsidy (for children of international faculty)
relocation assistance and support (for international faculty)
reduced teaching loads for research active and productive faculty
in the case where no conflict of interest arises, faculty may take advantage of extramural professional or consulting opportunities
Personal tax rates in Singapore are low.
English is the primary language of commerce and education in Singapore.
