Cardiff School of History and Archaeology in offers a number of fees-only Postgraduate Studentships for 2008/9. The awards will cover full fees (UK/EU level) and are tenable as follows:
- MPhil/PhD students: awards may be held for up to three years of full-time postgraduate study
- Masters students: awards may be held for one year
- Part-time study: pro-rata awards may also be made for part-time study
Eligibility:
Applicants will have been accepted for postgraduate study in the Cardiff School of History and Archaeology and may also have applied for an Award from the AHRC, or, where appropriate for those applicants from outside the UK, for an Award under the Overseas Research Scheme or from other funding bodies.
Further eligibility criteria:
- Applicants for the Masters in Medieval British Studies are eligible for the Studentships, if their applications and research proposals indicate a sufficient prominence of history or archaeology in their prospective course of studies.
- It is not possible to hold a School Studentship in addition to a full Award from a separate funding body; however, Studentships may be held in conjunction with partial awards from other bodies.

Applicants for a studentship, having already been successful in their application for postgraduate study, should submit a studentship application form, which must include a research proposal of not more than 1,000 words. If applicants have also applied to the AHRC (or equivalent Award-giving body), they may also submit a copy of the form they have submitted to that body.

Research Proposal: Masters applicants should outline the proposed area of study and their plans for the dissertation. Research applicants should give the proposed title for their thesis and an explanation of the scope and significance of the proposed research. Postgraduates already pursuing research degrees in the Cardiff School of History and Archaeology are eligible to apply.
The applications will be considered by the Postgraduate Studentship Committee, consisting of the Director of Postgraduate Studies, representatives from the research areas of the School (Ancient History, Archaeology, Conservation, History & Welsh History, and Medieval British Studies), and an academic chosen from outside the School. It is intended to make the Awards by the end of August 2008.
